Since the distillery was founded, Maker’s Mark has been about honoring the pursuit of exceptional flavor that drove our Founders Bill and Margie Samuels to rethink the way we make bourbon. We continue to honor that vision through our Wood Finishing Series.
For this chapter of our Wood Finishing series, The Unsung Heroes, we are pursuing unique taste visions inspired by the teams who craft our handmade bourbon in Loretto, Kentucky – the makers of Maker’s. Each team has a personal experience and influence on what makes Maker’s Mark the bourbon it is. This chapter of the Wood Finishing Series will capture Maker’s Mark through their eyes.
The Keepers Release
The Keepers Release is a one-of-a-kind expression inspired by the people who oversee the maturation of our whisky - the true “keepers” of Maker’s Mark. These guardians are responsible for the whisky from the moment it enters the barrel, through the 6+ years of aging, until it is ready for bottling.
They hand-rotate each barrel from the top to the bottom of the warehouses to ensure consistent aging from barrel to barrel. They endure the elements during winters and summers to ensure that every barrel of Maker’s Mark matures to the taste vision set by our founders.
The Heart Release
The first release is inspired by our distillery team and their intricate world of mills and mash tuns - the very heart of our whisky-making process, hence the name “The Heart Release.” This crucial stage guides all subsequent stages, ensuring that our Founders’ taste vision is fully realized.
Each member of our distillery contributed unique flavor notes that together form the essence - the heart - of Maker’s Mark. The result is a one-of-a-kind expression that truly celebrates the craftsmanship of our team that distills our whisky.
